Tortoise

The turtle is considered a symbol of long life and happiness. The turtle is the protagonist of well-known Japanese legends such as that of Urishima Taro. The shell of the turtle and its hexagonal shapes have inspired sculptors and artisans.

For the Chinese the turtles have the secret of the heavens and the Earth inside their body. The turtle shell shells were used to predict the future, in ceremonies during the Shang Chinese dynasty (17766-1122 BC). In Chinese mythology the turtle helped Pangú to create the world. For the Chinese and the Indians the tortoise symbolizes the Universe.

Sometimes other sacred animals such as the dragon join the turtle as symbols of good luck.
